    It's flying weather!

Yeah, and from an awkward direction too, north.
  2. Is there a hobby where you actually NEED gales and rain?

    Yep.
Walked down to the village for some milk and got blown back up the hill :)
If I'd flown in this it would have ended up in Mayo.
  3. Is there a hobby where you actually NEED gales and rain?

    Ah yes.
Now where's that bottle of Islay malt....?

    Weather watching perhaps?

    Legal frequencies

    Thanks James.
    Lots of reading there.
Latest ComReg document (2011) seems to mention 27, 35 and 40 MHz, but no 433 or 459..
So I've emailed ComReg and will let you know what they say.

    Legal frequencies

    Hi all,
There's so much talk about this frequency or that, mostly from the UK and the USA, but I can't find any reliable info about Ireland.

The ComReg site seems to list 27MHz and 35MHz, with a...

    any spare os engines?

    Agree.
    Go at it.
A 2 stroke only has three moving parts:
    Piston, conrod and crankshaft.
Ok, four if you count the gudgeon pin ( the pin that connects the piston to the conrod)
    No valves to worry...

Think Saftey: Don't be mained, Be Restrained

    Lets be plain speaking here.
This device doesn't stop you cutting half your arm off, any more than some 4x2 and bits of rebar.
With them you can walk around the back if you want to, and you don't...

    LiPo Storage - Some advice?

    Quite agree.
    That's why I haven't got a charging bag.
I charge all my LiPos at 1C, usually about 2 amps, and on a patch of concrete floor.
I'm usually in the next room waiting for the charger to...

    LiPo Storage - Some advice?

Yes I sort of guessed that wasn't your usual storage method :)
    Nice box of fireworks.
On the other hand, it's so easy, especially at the flying field, to just bung the batteries in the box...

    LiPo Storage - Some advice?

    Hmmm.
    Well, probably not.
Chances of anything shorting out are pretty slim really.
But the consequences should anything happen don't bear thinking about.

But who am I to criticise?

    My LiPos...

My best friend died today :(

    Oh dear, that's sad.
It's hard when companions like that die.
Two weeks time will be the anniversary of our dog dying, and I still expect to be greeted by her wagging tail whenever I come in.

    UAV question

    Yep sure was.
I'd checked it all on the DJI software on the computer beforehand of course, but turning the TX off in flight is a bit like jumping off a cliff.

Worked though, so full marks to the...

    UAV question

Well, mine didn't cost a tiny fraction of that, uses a Naza with failsafe set to return home and land in case of signal loss.
I've tried it out (with heart in mouth) by turning off the TX, and it...

    UAV question

Yep, my son looked into this too (in the UK) as he's got a friend who has more aerial photography jobs lined up than he can handle.
And 30k just about sums it up.
    So no go.

    UAV question

This subject is full of pitfalls and officialdom.
Technically, if you are using a flying machine of any sort for commercial purposes, you need permission from the CAA, and must pass tests and exams,...
